Our Mission
NCADD-New Jersey works in partnership with and on behalf of individuals, families, and communities affected by alcoholism and drug dependence, promoting recovery through excellence in prevention and treatment initiatives.

We have been working for nearly 30 years to reduce the stigma associated with addictive illness and to advocate for and promote recovery. This is the same mission established by Marty Mann, who founded the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence in 1945. As an affiliate of the national organization, we have been a strong advocate for policies and laws that increase the access to and availability of treatment and recovery services. We also strive to eliminate policies that are discriminatory towards those suffering with addictive illness.

We sponsor a wide range of programs and services designed to fulfill our mission and goals. These activities include publishing a bimonthly news journal—Perspectives—that includes both state and national news and other features about addiction. NCADD-NJ also operates the Substance Abuse Initiative (SAI) and Behavioral Health Initiative (BHI). The SAI is a statewide Work First New Jersey welfare-to-work program funded by the New Jersey Department of Human Services. The goal of the SAI is to eliminate addiction as a barrier to employment. Other agency programs include general advocacy and community education services funded through a grant from the Open Society Foundations. NCADD-NJ is also the voucher manager for the Rocky Mountain Tribal Access to Recovery (ATR) Project located in Montana, managing up to $2 million in treatment and recovery support services on behalf of the Montana-Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council. We also work with the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University in two government-funded addiction research projects. These are just a few of the ways we work to address the problem of drug and alcohol addiction. Please explore this website for more information, or call us at 609-689-0599.
